James Warren Guin
April 10, 1936 -- February 10, 2017


Jim passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1955, where he excelled in all sports and was a member of the 1954 State basketball championship team. He married Janet Karnowski in November 1955. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, and continued to serve in the National Guard, 194th Tank Battalion. He worked and retired from Camp Ripley in 1995. His military career totaled 41 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman, fishing salmon in Lake Michigan and hunting deer and game birds around Minnesota. He enjoyed playing Pinochle with good friends, the Wasnie's, growing potatoes and trips to the casinos. He watched the Twins, Vikings, Wolves and U of M sports teams on TV and was their most loyal supporter.

He and Janet had 5 children: Jim (Carol) of Brainerd, Pat (Bruce) Alderman of Florida, Timothy of Bemidji, Chris (Brad) Flanagan of Brainerd, and Jackie Guin of Pillager. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and stepfather.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:oo p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church. Visitation at the church will begin one hour prior to the service.
